Elk City Depot

Elk City Depot

Location: Elk City OK

Photographed: July 2014

Accessibility: Visible from roadside. Private property. If you chose to visit, outside access only.  DO NOT TRESPASS. Heavily boarded up due to damage by past trespassing vandals.

History: The Elk City Rock Island Depot is beautiful in spite of heavy damage from vandals and being boarded up. Built between 1904-1910, when the rail line through Elk City was displaced by the city of Altus rail line in 1973 the depot fell into disuse. Featuring exemplary era architecture, still having plenty of potential ,and not far from Route 66, the depot would be an excellent house for a museum or other civic usage especially considering the integral role the railroad played in the creation of Elk City.
